How to Remove Stress and Anxiety Using Art?

From our ancestors' ages, art has been a medium to express, patch up, and communicate. Today, we are running around to cope with the speed of the world, which will eventually land us on the dark side of life, the depressed side. We want something to hold on to other than this robotic life, other than the toxic relationship we have, other than the chameleon people around us. Here, I will show you some of the bright sides of art and the artist's mentality. How can you change your stressful life by including art in your daily life? And how to incorporate art into your daily routine

The Therapy of Art

Obviously, art is therapy; it has some magical powers that can help you return to your lost life. A well-planned process of doing art can kick off your creative side, which leads to improved physical, mental and emotional well-being

Art therapy is a well-known practice which uses creative methods to improve mental state, muscle coordination, and creativity.  Some of the benefits are,

  1. Expressing the emotions: Creating art is a way of expressing emotions. There is a theory that the colours you choose will depend upon your emotional state, and drawing is a way to release emotions in your mind.

  2. Keeping up your focus: If you are doing something like art or drawing, the focus you put on will help you release all your stressful thoughts and reduce anxiety issues. You will be living in the world of creativity; you will be living in the present world.

  3. Releases stress: Doing art helps to release all the stressful hormones and keep your mind calm.

  4. Sense satisfaction: Finishing a project that goes the planned way will boost your self-esteem and increase focus.

  5. Improved self-awareness:  Doing art can help you find yourself and what you want to do.

List of art types that help you to relieve the stress:

  • Sketching: It is a simple activity that can be done with any paper and pencils you have. The minimal material requirement makes it a better option for it.  Just scribble down whatever you have in your mind.

  • Doodling: it's like sketching, but the difference is that there are no laws or preferred mediums or materials. Basically, it's a free art. No expertise is needed. It uses different shapes combined into a picture. It helps to express the feelings differently.

  • Colouring: By colouring, you are releasing stress by focusing. You will be colouring the places where you are supposed to be inside the border, which gives you more focus.

  • Sculpting and Clay Work: Creating shapes using clay helps to shift your creativity to the next level. While you are trying to create shapes, it will only allow the mind to do one thing rather than roaming around.

  • Digital Art: It is a new medium that originated from the digitalization era. The things that we do on paper can be done in the digital medium. The main thing is convenience. We can save and do the work when we have time. There is a lot of software available on the market.

Practical ways to reduce anxiety

1. allocating time: Allocate time to do art every day. This will make it a habit to do art every day, which will help you to improve your art skills.

2. Creating a workspace: Setting up a space where you are comfortable to work can boost your productivity. The safer you are, the more art can be done.

3. Trust your progress: Being conscious about the final output makes you worried about and doubtful about the steps that you are taking. It can affect your creativity.

4. Try to do everything in a single journal: Use one book to draw your art, which will help boost your confidence when you see your artwork. They can give you confidence and help you push your boundaries.

Art is not a medium. It is a stress buster. We only hesitate to do art because we think that we need more practice to do art, but it is in you. All the creativity and all the ideas are in you. You have to find it out by breaking the shell.
