How do you collect papers to do your art for free? When and where to get it?

As artists, we have some commitment to our environment. An artist is not only someone who draws something on a canvas or paper. They give an idea to a mass audience through their actions. Here, we will explain how a waste material can be converted into a perfect piece of art.

We throw large amounts of paper into the garbage; these papers can be a perfect canvas for drawing. The papers, like those that cover some products, such as bus tickets, can be used to create art. This method can reduce the garbage because these papers have good GSM qualities that are suitable for an artist to draw on.

The GSM of paper is essential while drawing because that determines how hard we can draw on the paper without spreading the ink or marks on the other side, which kills the drawing quality. So, every professional artist uses high-quality papers made from so many trees. If we can find a better replacement for it and reduce tree cutting and paper production, this small act can significantly impact the climate.

The advantages of doing this kind of wastepaper are:

  • Spreading an idea

  • Showing your care and responsibility towards the environment.

  • Improve decision-making and selecting the medium to draw.

  • Ease of drawing before your idea fades away from your mind.

To find such papers, we have to scavenge the waste materials; every paper we see will have a better side where it can be used for drawing.

In this blog, I show an example of where we can get such papers. I live in Canada, where the tram and bus tickets are printed on good-quality paper. And people throw these papers around the stations, making them a mess. This is an excellent opportunity to show how waste can be converted into art. These tickets are only printed on one side; the other is a plain side, which can be used to draw fantastic art.

These papers can be collected and made into a giant art journal book by tying them together. This kind of paper even works fine with technical pens and pencils. It won't even get damaged if we paint on the paper. It has that kind of surface. And there is another place where we can find this kind of paper suitable for drawing: malls which sell clothes Because clothes have paper inside to make them look stiff and good. Usually, people throw this away at the time of purchase, and I have seen bags of waste papers being taken away from the stores. We can collect some of the papers from there and use them for art journaling.

The quality of the paper is the same kind that we can find in the GRT stations. The paper has good gsm, making it a good match for drawing. You don’t have to hesitate to ask for the papers. They will happily give them to you because they know they go to the garbage.

When we start to find the good side of waste materials, we can find many things that can be converted into fantastic art. Doodling is the best option because it's a free art. Anyone without any prior experience can give the art form a try. It also helps budding artists create good art journals without any hassle and can save money. This can kill your stress by helping you scribble without any idea about what you are drawing in doodling; you can decide where it is going and how it looks in the final output. The best thing about the doodling is it doesn’t have any laws to obey, which makes it a perfect match to use this kind of art material.
